5-Amino-1MQ
A small-molecule NNMT blocker with mouse data only — not actually a peptide.
Overview
5-Amino-1MQ is a small molecule, not a peptide, though it is sold alongside peptides. It blocks an enzyme called NNMT that is high in fat tissue. In diet-induced obese mice it reduced body weight and fat-cell size without changing food intake. There are no published human trials.
How it works
Inhibits nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). Less NNMT activity is thought to preserve NAD+ and SAM (a methyl donor) inside fat cells, nudging them to burn more energy and store less fat. This is based on cell and mouse work.
Evidence
2/5
Cell studies and a small number of mouse studies; no published human trials.
Half-life
Not established in humans
Known as
5-amino-1-methylquinolinium, NNMT inhibitor

Reported benefits
Weight and fat loss in obese mice
Reduced body weight and fat mass over about 11 days in diet-induced obese mice, with no change in food intake.
Smaller fat cells
Shrank fat cells and lowered fat storage in lab and mouse studies.
Muscle stem-cell activity
Improved muscle regeneration in aged mice in one study.
Fat loss in people
Reported by users; no controlled human data.
“Anecdotal” means reported by users, not shown in controlled trials.
Community-reported regimens
Not recommendations. These are commonly cited ranges, shown so you can see what real-world use looks like.
| Plan | Dose | Frequency | Duration | Route |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Community-reported (vial) Users often start at 2.5 mg for a few days. Not a studied human dose. | 5000 mcg | Once daily | 4–6 weeks, then break | Subcutaneous |
| Community-reported (oral capsule) Capsules are the more common form. Not applicable to the vial calculator. | 50000 mcg | 1–3× daily | 4–8 weeks | Oral |

Math only: concentration (mg/mL) = vial mg ÷ mL of water; units = dose (mg) ÷ concentration × 100. Always double-check against your own vial label and a clinician. This tool does not recommend a dose.
Reconstitution
Diluent: Bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) — allows multiple draws from one vial.
- Wipe both vial tops with an alcohol swab and let dry.
- Draw the diluent, then inject it slowly down the inside wall of the vial — never straight onto the powder.
- Swirl gently or let it sit; do not shake. Foam can damage peptides.
- Solution should be clear. Cloudy, stringy or discolored = discard.
- This is a salt (iodide) of a small molecule, not a peptide. Stinging at the injection site is commonly reported.
- Common mix: 50 mg + 5 mL = 10 mg/mL (5 mg = 50 units).
Storage
Powder
Freezer / fridge
Keep sealed vial in the freezer (−20 °C) for long-term storage; fridge (2–8 °C) is fine for a few weeks. Keep dry and out of light.
After mixing
~28 days
Refrigerate at 2–8 °C. Never freeze after mixing. Keep upright, capped, and out of light.
Travel
Keep cool
Short trips at room temperature are generally fine for powder; keep mixed vials cold.
- Protect from light; the solution is naturally slightly colored.
Side effects & cautions
Reported side effects
- Injection-site stinging
- Nausea or stomach upset (oral)
- Headache
- Unknown long-term effects in humans
Cautions
- No human safety data. Mouse results often fail to translate to people.
- NNMT is involved in methylation and NAD+ balance; long-term effects of blocking it are unknown.
- No data in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
FDA & international status
Not FDA-approved
An experimental research compound. Never tested in published human trials and not approved for any use. Sold as a research chemical.
Regulations change often — verify with the FDA, EMA, MHRA, Health Canada, TGA and WADA before acting.
Often paired with
NAD+Commonly paired because NNMT inhibition is thought to spare NAD+. Rationale is theoretical; never tested together.

FAQ
Is 5-Amino-1MQ a peptide?
No. It's a small molecule (about 159 g/mol for the active part), much smaller than any peptide on this site.
Oral or injected?
Both are sold. Oral capsules are more common; vials are used at much smaller doses. Neither has been studied in humans.
How long until results?
Users report changes over several weeks, but with no human trials there is no reliable answer and placebo can't be ruled out.
