GHK-Cu's lesser-known cousin, researched mainly for hair follicles.
Last reviewed Oct 7, 2026 · How we rate evidence · Report an error
AHK-Cu is a copper-binding tripeptide (alanine-histidine-lysine) closely related to GHK-Cu. It shows up in hair-growth serums. Its research base is small: lab studies on human hair follicles and skin cells suggest it supports follicle growth, but there are almost no published human trials.
In lab studies it stimulated growth of isolated human hair follicles and dermal papilla cells (the cells that control hair growth) and reduced cell death in those cells. Like GHK-Cu, it delivers copper and may encourage collagen production in skin cells.

Lengthened isolated human hair follicles and boosted dermal papilla cell growth in lab studies.
Increased collagen production in skin-cell cultures.

At a common mix of 50 mg of AHK-Cu in 5 mL of water (10 mg/mL), these commonly reported doses come to the following on a U-100 insulin syringe (100 units = 1 mL). They are examples of the arithmetic, not recommendations.
| Reported plan | Dose | Draw to | Volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| Community (injectable) | 1 mg | 10 units | 0.1 mL |
Concentration (mg/mL) = vial mg ÷ mL of water; units = dose (mg) ÷ concentration × 100. A different vial size or amount of water changes every number above.

Powder
Freezer / fridge
Keep sealed vial in the freezer (−20 °C) for long-term storage; fridge (2–8 °C) is fine for a few weeks. Keep dry and out of light.
After mixing
~30 days
Refrigerate at 2–8 °C. Never freeze after mixing. Keep upright, capped, and out of light.
Travel
Keep cool
Short trips at room temperature are generally fine for powder; keep mixed vials cold.
AHK-Cu is used in cosmetic hair and skin products (not FDA-approved, as cosmetics aren't). Injectable AHK-Cu is not an approved drug.
Regulations change often — verify with the FDA, EMA, MHRA, Health Canada, TGA and WADA before acting.
GHK-Cu has more human research overall. AHK-Cu has hair-specific lab data but almost no human trials. Many products combine both.
Hair cycles are slow — give any hair treatment at least 3–6 months before judging it.
There's no evidence for that. Those drugs have large human trials; AHK-Cu does not.
It depends on the mix. At a common mix of 50 mg of AHK-Cu in 5 mL of water (10 mg/mL), 1 mg is 10 units (0.1 mL) on a U-100 insulin syringe. The formula is dose in mg ÷ concentration in mg/mL × 100. Change the vial size or water in the calculator and the units update. This is math, not a dose recommendation.
Bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) — allows multiple draws from one vial. A common mix is 50 mg + 5 mL, which gives 10 mg/mL. Less water makes a stronger mix and fewer units per dose; more water makes a weaker mix and more units. Pick the amount that lands your dose on an easy-to-read line.
Refrigerate at 2–8 °C. Never freeze after mixing. Keep upright, capped, and out of light. Plan on about 30 days once it is mixed, and discard it sooner if it turns cloudy or has particles. The calculator shows how long a vial lasts at your dose and flags a vial that outlasts its shelf life.
Evidence rating (1/5): Mainly in-vitro and ex-vivo hair follicle studies. Little to no controlled human data.
Legal status: AHK-Cu is used in cosmetic hair and skin products (not FDA-approved, as cosmetics aren't). Injectable AHK-Cu is not an approved drug.
